Nobu Japanese Restaurant Reviews

Review submitted 28th October 2014 - by Scott from Sydney

I had very mixed feelings about Nobu Japanese Restaurant. I went in for dinner with a friend on Friday night. I had tried to make a reservation at 8pm though the earliest I could get a table was 9pm, no big deal. The food was very tasty, we both enjoyed all the dishes, we shared the beef tataki (raw beef), the tempura prawns and the delicious baby barramundi. What I didn't like about it - well the waiter we had was quite arrogant. When he came to our table he said the Nobu with a fusion of Japanese and South American food (huh?) I didn't see any influence on the menu or on the food from South America, seems all modern Japanese. He held the menus back from us saying that he knew the menu best and could order for us. I said I would like to see the menu. he hesitated and said are you sure you don't want me to order for you? (F.O idiot. I want to look at the menu!). Part of the joy of dining out is looking at the entire menu and choosing exactly what you want, not have someone order it for you. Also seeing the full menu is part of the decision of if you want to go back to that restaurant to try anything else from the menu.

Downstairs is very busy which is fine but they pipe in the DJ music from upstairs and makes it just that little bit too noisy that it is hard to have a conversation. I really enjoyed the food (8/10) but with the wanker waiter and the noisy environment I would only give the restaurant a total of 5.5 / 10. I wont be back.
